Olsen Gruin Gallery in New York is hosting an exhibition “April Fools”
by artist TV Moore that will be on view through May 7, 2017.
The exhibition presents new works by New York based pioneering Australian artist TV Moore (b.1974).
Moore
is known for his works through multiple discipline, where he pushes
through his materials, manipulating them, to create sculptures with an
essence of the past. The sculptures on view at the exhibition follows a
technological paradox, as most of his earlier works, which are
representations beyond the trompe-l'eoil recreations, reactivating the
ordinary, bringing grandeur and life to everyday motifs. While working
on these sculptures, cutting up and rearranging pieces of cardboard
during his trip back to his mother’s house in Canberra, the artist
thought back to tsukumogami, the Japanese myth of spirits inhabiting
objects, sometimes deceiving people, sometimes said to have been foxes
that lived for a hundred years, making him wonder about what it is that
gets trapped in a black hole, about shadows and totems. These works
carry a sense of childhood that matches the finger-painting in his
large-scale Cibachrome works, making them at once permanent and fragile.
The exhibition is on view at Olsen Gruin Gallery, 211 Elizabeth Street, New York, NY 10012, USA.
